Frequently asked questions
How does mobile access control work?
Employees install an app and receive a digital credential. At the door, they unlock with the app or by holding the phone near the reader, and the system checks their permissions and schedule before releasing the lock. Every entry is logged, just like a card swipe.
What happens if someone loses their phone?
You revoke the credential from the app or web dashboard, and the lost phone can no longer open doors. When the employee gets a new phone, you send a new credential in minutes. No one has to rekey a lock or track down a card.
Can we use phones and key cards together?
Yes. Many buildings run mobile credentials alongside cards, fobs, and keypads on the same doors, so you can move people to phones gradually. Visitors and contractors can keep using temporary cards or codes while staff use their phones. Learn more about access control.
Do I need new door readers?
Possibly. Mobile credentials need readers that support phone-based entry. Many newer readers already do, and older readers can be replaced one door at a time. We check your current hardware during the site assessment and tell you exactly what’s compatible.
Is mobile access secure?
Yes. Mobile credentials follow the same permissions and schedules as cards, and the phone can add its own protection, such as a passcode or fingerprint. They’re much harder to copy than a basic key card, and you can revoke them instantly from anywhere.
Can visitors and contractors get mobile access?
Yes. You can send a temporary credential that works only on certain doors, days, and times, and it expires automatically. That’s simpler than handing out keys or cards and tracking them down later, and every use is logged.
Does mobile access work without cell service?
Usually, yes. Most mobile credentials talk to the reader over Bluetooth or NFC, so the phone doesn’t need cell service at the door. Some app features, such as unlocking a door remotely, do need a data connection. We confirm how the readers and app will work in your building during the site assessment.
Can I manage access from my own phone?
Yes. Administrators can add or remove users, change schedules, unlock doors, and review entry reports from the iOS and Android apps or a web browser, wherever they are. You don’t need to be on site to make changes.
How much does mobile access control cost?
It depends on the number of doors, whether your current readers support mobile credentials, the software plan, and how many users you have. We price every project after a free site assessment and send a written quote with options, so you can start with key doors and expand later.
