Frequently asked questions
How does a video intercom work?
A visitor presses the call button on the door station, which rings a desk station, a monitor, or a phone app. You see and hear the visitor, talk to them, and unlock the door if you choose. Calls and door releases can be logged, and many systems save an image of each visit.
Can I answer the door from my phone?
Yes. Cloud-connected intercoms can send calls to a mobile app, so staff or property managers can see the visitor, talk to them, and unlock the door from anywhere. Calls can ring a front desk, a phone, or both, depending on how you want each entrance answered.
Does a door entry system work with access control?
Yes. Intercoms are often the first step toward access control. The same doors can take cards, fobs, or mobile credentials for staff and residents while visitors use the intercom, and we connect both so every entry, call, and release shows up in one log.
Can one system cover multiple entrances or buildings?
Yes. We connect multiple entrances, gates, and buildings to one cloud-based system, so one person or one front desk can answer calls for an entire property or campus. Each entrance has its own station, and you can see which door a visitor is calling from.
How do door entry systems handle deliveries?
Couriers call from the intercom, you confirm them on video, and you unlock the door remotely. That cuts down on missed deliveries and keeps the main entrance locked between drop-offs. Delivery access can also be limited to certain doors and certain hours.
Can visitors be identified automatically?
Video lets staff identify visitors at a glance, and facial recognition or other biometric readers can let enrolled people in automatically. Biometrics are usually used for staff and residents, while guests still check in through the intercom or a visitor management system.
Do I need new doors or new wiring?
Usually not. Most entrances can take an intercom station plus an electric strike or magnetic lock on the existing door. Some systems reuse existing wiring and others connect over your network. We check each entrance during the site assessment and tell you exactly what’s needed.
Are intercom calls and entries recorded?
Door entry systems keep a log of calls, door releases, and attempted unauthorized entries, and video intercoms can save images of each visit. For continuous recording, we pair the entrance with a security camera so you have the full clip.
How much does a door entry system cost?
It depends on the number of entrances, audio or video stations, the locks each door needs, and whether you choose a cloud-based system. We price every project after a free site assessment and send a written quote with options, so you can start with one door and add more later.
