Live talkdown vs. siren-only alarms
| What matters | Live talkdown | Siren-only alarm |
|---|---|---|
| How intruders react | A live voice describing them shows someone is watching | Sirens are easy to ignore |
| False alarms | An agent verifies every alert first | Triggered by anything that sets off a sensor |
| Police response | Called with exact, confirmed details | Only if someone calls them |
| Evidence | The full interaction is recorded | Depends on separate cameras |
| Control | You set what is said and when to escalate | One preset sound |

Frequently asked questions
How does talkdown monitoring work?
Smart cameras detect a person in a monitored area and alert an agent. The agent reviews the live video, then speaks through an on-site speaker to tell the person they’re being watched and recorded. If they stay, the agent contacts police with exact details and records the entire interaction.
What do the agents say?
You decide. Together we set a script and escalation steps, such as a first warning, a second warning that describes the person, and a call to police. Agents follow your instructions every time, and you can change them whenever your needs change.
Does talkdown actually stop trespassers?
It often does. A live voice that describes someone’s clothing and location proves they’ve been seen, which a siren can’t do. When a warning isn’t enough, agents call police immediately, and the recording gives officers evidence. Imperial has more than 2,600 documented apprehensions.
What equipment do I need for talkdown?
You need cameras with smart detection covering the areas you want protected, plus speakers on site, often with microphones for two-way audio. We can add speakers to many existing camera systems or install a complete setup, and we test the audio so warnings are clear across the property.
Will agents call the police every time?
No. Agents determine whether an alert is a real threat before acting, so false alarms from animals, weather, or staff don’t lead to a police call. When a threat is confirmed, agents send authorities immediately with exact details about what’s happening and where.
Is talkdown available 24/7?
Yes. Talkdown can run around the clock or only during the hours you choose, such as nights, weekends, and holidays when your property is empty. You can change the schedule as your needs change, for example during a project phase or a busy season.
Is talkdown the same as live video monitoring?
Talkdown is one part of it. Live video monitoring covers the full process of watching your cameras, verifying threats, and dispatching help, and talkdown is the step where agents speak to people on site. The two are usually used together.
Can I see what happened?
Yes. You can watch live and recorded video from your phone or computer, and agents record the entire interaction. You’re notified about incidents, so you can review exactly what was said and how the person responded. Recordings can be shared with police or your insurer if you need them.
How much does talkdown monitoring cost?
It depends on the number of cameras and speakers, the hours you want covered, and whether you need new equipment. We price every project after a free site assessment and send a written quote with options, so you can compare coverage levels.
